Question:
HI Don,
Hopefully you can clear this one up for me. We have been in our home for 7 years and just last year we started having problems with our furnace. The problem is that we have soot all around the furnace in the crawl space and all over our deck and walkway outside. (quite the mess). When we called about this problem we where told we needed a combustion air system. When we asked why this was happening now and not the 5 years before no one seemed to have an answer.
We heat with a combination of wood stove and oil. Do you have any idea why this would be happening now and not before, and is a combustion air system what we need to remedy this?
THanks
Caroline Vladescu
Answer:
There are too many variables and possibilities to be able to determine the cause of the sooting without actually inspecting the unit. I recommend you have the equipment inspected by a qualified technician. It could be a plugged nozel, or plugged vents. With regards to the combusrion air, again it is something that needs to be determined once the unit has been inspected.
