Question:

Hi, I would like to know what is the most efficient way of heating a spa all year round. Do gaz operated spa exists, sort of like gaz water heaters? If so, how do they compare to electrically operated ones? Thanks

Answer:

Great question, the key is holding the heat once the water is heated making the insulation and cover very important elements with regard to efficiency. Continuous horse powered motors and low circulating pumps are also essential contributors to efficiency. 97% of all hot tubs are heated through electricity and regardless of how the water is heated electricity is needed to run the pumps (and therefore jets). There are options of gas and propane heaters for spas and generators can be used to power them although the efficiency is not superior and many other features are compromised. Portability of your tub is lost, a permanent gas line needs to be installed and capped off if you move your tub. There is a 2-3 degree heat differential with gas, and when you increase the temperature (until the water reaches the desired heat) the water pumping through the jets can be scalding, with electric the heat is consistent. Beachcomber Hot Tubs are famous for their energy efficiency, here are a few reasons why: The Protec™ option design moves the power source out from the hot tub cavity and under a safety step that makes it easy for everyone to get in and out of your hot tub. This allows all four walls of your hot tub to be insulated, which means better energy efficiency and lower operating costs. The extra insulation also functions as a sound barrier so you can enjoy well-earned peace and quiet. And it's much easier to access the power source now that it's located right under the safety step. The Energy efficient foam fill with high insulation value fills every nook and cranny to ensure you save energy and money. The PowerSmart™ Heatshield cover seals in heat in any weather, just like a thermos bottle. Save heat, save energy and save money. A heat bumper seal grips the lid of the tub to seal in heat in any weather. Thanks for your time, it would be my pleasure to help with any other questions, Kerri from the Award Winning Artistic Group, Beachcomber Hot Tubs 2739 Carp rd 831-5559 or Place D’Orleans Shopping Centre 837-5567.
