Question:

Hi Clint, Trying to choose between gas and electric fireplace. Does getting a gas fireplace justify the cost of the unit. Will I be saving that much more than electric. Do you know if there is a big difference in consumption rates? Thanks. Rod

Answer:

Rod Choosing a fireplace for both ambiance and secondary heat is a fine line. Gas Fireplaces offer more in heating compacity and more in aestetics but the room in which you want the fireplace may be small and not require a fireplace with 15,000Btu (minimum) Electric fireplaces however have come a long way in viewing technology but don't offer enough heat for rooms larger then 12x12 I'm not current with consumption rates but at one time gas was about 15 cents per hour at 15000 btu @ 75% efficient and electric was at 10 cents per hour at 5000 btu @ 100% efficiency Clint
