Question:
Hey Clint,
I recently moved into a home with a wood burning fireplace insert. I've never used one of these before, and was wondering what the most effecient way to use it is. I've got photos I could email you, so you can get a better idea of the vintage and style of the insert. Thanks.

What you have here is a zero clearance(framing issue) wood burning fireplace Manufacturered as a 0% efficient fireplace for cookie cutter home builders Is primary function was to offer ambiance and slight....very slight heat return Todays technology is far superior to what you have Unfortunetly your chimney would not even be compatible with todays high efficiency fireplaces The outside air supply is to replenish the house('cause houses are built tighter), so it does not create
negative pressure, thus starving your furnace for air(very bad) The blower is of old technology as well, but I'm surprised it still works These fireplaces were designed and tested to burn both with the doors open or closed So however it works best, operate it that way But when not using the fireplace, be certain to close the damper and the doors. Always be safe and install a CO2 detector close to the appliance.
Sincerely,
