Question:

Dear Jim,
Why is it when I put the plug in the wall the motor goes in one direction and if I flip the plug the motor won't go backwards?
Confused

Answer:

Hi Sandy

Good Question

The electricity in your wall is AC or Alternating Current. The current, which is actually the movement of electrons, moves in one direction for half a second then the other direction for half a second. This happens 60 times per minute, which give us our 60 hertz. Changing the placement of the plug therefore does not matter since in either situation the current is the same. Thanks for your question.
