Question:

I would like to enclose my home's carport (1960 era) to build a garage. This is a bungalow with the roof that continues over the carport, supported by three steel posts. The existing laneway is of course asphalt, I would like to replace the asphalt in the carport with a concrete slab. Can I use a floating slab, do I have to tie into the existing house foundation? I've been told any slab will need a proper foundation, requiring digging down quite deep? Can you recommend someone who would be prepared to a job of this size. Calls to contractors the last couple of years have been unsuccessful. Thanks.

Answer:

Hello there A slab-on-ground (floating slab) can be used because it is not or does not support the building structure above. Provide a bond break between the slab and existing foundation wall. Contact this firm by e-mail tonydangeloconstructionltd@rogers.com or telephone @ 613-235-7848 for an estimate.
