Question:
Hi Marc,
When a builder describes its construction of the common walls in a row townhouse as "2'x 4' studs with air space & Type "X" fire code drywall with insulation for noise resistance", does this mean that I will hear less noise from both of my next door neighbours? Thanks!
Michael
Answer:
Hi Michael,
The way you describe it to me, is the cheapest way for a builder to build those common walls. Some builders will use a combination of cinder block with insulation & drywall & other will build there’s with ICF (Insulating Concrete Forms) where they use 2.5" of foam on both sides and pour it with concrete. That is one of the best option for sound barrier.
