Question:

Hi Sam

I recently has cellulose insul blown in my walls.
They also did behind the kneewalls upstairs. When the furnace comes on there's a dusty sensation in the air. It's as if the cellulose entered my furnace system somehow.I installed new furnace filter(3M Filtrete)but there's no change.I checked cold air returns but couldn't find evidence. The only thing I can think of are the furnace hot air pipes that are in the attic covered by the cellulose. But they blow out instead of sucking in like a cold air return.
Could the cellulose somehow get into these hot pipes? Thanx

George Jones
Do you have any idea how it may have entered the system?

Answer:

The cellulose is propably coming through a crimped pipe in some of the cold air return runs, or if the interior wall happened to be blown with cellulose then it might be that a cold air cavity was probably filled. If it is in the hot air pipes it was accidentally placed there for what ever reason or it has gone full circle first through the cold air then furnace and is resting there. The other issue may be if your house has a drop ceiling in the garage because there is a living space above the garage, when they insulated the garage ceiling they may have used cellulose and so there is also a cold air duct in there so it also may be sucking cellulose from there, this is only true if there is a room over garage and is filled in cellulose.
