Question:
Hello Sam,
Our natural gas bills are much higher (30 to 50 %) than our neighbours, even though we live in identical carriage homes with the same type and age of furnace.
We would like to improve the insulation in our house. What approach do you suggest for the attic? For the walls? Should the existing material (cellulose in the attic, not sure about the walls) be removed first? What insulation material is safest for humans, especially those with environmental allergies?
Thanks,
Ron.
Answer:
Hi Ron,
The reason for so much more as far as cost to heat/cool yours is due to air leakage. The best product to solve this problem would be Icynene spray foam to the entire building envelope, this maybe a costly avenue to take but focusing on areas like basement headers, upgrading attic etc can make a huge impact on the cost of heating/cooling your home. It is sensitive for people with allergies
For more information on this product or Icynene visit Icynene.com or call me at the office
