Question:
what should I be considering for sealing and insulating a bare stone basement foundation wall? Humidity and moisture can be a problem in the spring and summer months and because the stone foundation is old, it is shedding old mortar in places.
Answer:
If the foundation is letting in water then the issue has to be addressed from the outside. If you are trying to insulate the foundation wall, i would recommend that the wall be framed first then use Icynene to spray in between framing members this will seal any cracks in the field/flagstone foundation at same time provide you with an insulation in basement to keep the room on inside comfortable.
