Question:
Hi,
I have a walkout basement which is always very cold. I want to know how can I insulate or prevent the coldness from coming out of the un-finished part of the basement to the finished part. I have two doors down there, they are the main access to the laundry/basement and the one for the bathroom rough in.

Answer:
To help keep that heat warm air inside the house, I would suggest that the unfinished part of the basement the insulatio be extended to at least 12" from the floor. The other suggestion would be to properly seal the header spaces in the basement, 20% of a houses heat or cooling is lost through those areas, so if those areas can be properly air seal versus the regualr conventional way of using fiberglass that would make a difference as well. Use a spray in foam like Icynene to help you solve the headers problem.
