Question:

I am building a sunroom on an existing patio deck. I will be using electric radiant heating with a tile floor for warmth. I live in Mb and would like to extend the season as long as possible. Do I need to insulate the underside of the deck. I have about 8" from the bottom of my joists to the ground.

Answer:

I would suggest you insulate the bottom of the with a product called Icynene, this will ensure that floor is air seal and will not allow any cold to come through. It would also be benecial because that floor now lacks a vapor barrier and you would not have to place a drop celing under that floor to place the plastic. Also the ground clearance is an issue. The Icynene insulation system would be the best solution to your situation. Sam Marrello Comfort Insulation 613-226-9912
