Question:
I am building a sunroom on an existing patio deck. I will be using electric radiant heating with a tile floor for warmth. I live in Mb and would like to extend the season as long as possible. Do I need to insulate the underside of the deck. I have about 8" from the bottom of my joists to the ground.
Answer:
I would suggest you insulate the bottom of the with a product called Icynene, this will ensure that floor is air seal and will not allow any cold to come through. It would also be benecial because that floor now lacks a vapor barrier and you would not have to place a drop celing under that floor to place the plastic. Also the ground clearance is an issue. The Icynene insulation system would be the best solution to your situation.
