Question:
I have a cottage that has become extremely humid to the point where pictures are becoming wavy, as if they were wet, and bamboo blinds have mold. The cottage is raised off the ground ranging from one end as high as 5,9' to 1'. Around this area is fully inclosed(Foundation) with one access door, therefore the underneath of the cottage is not insulated. With the ground/rock being exposed, I am assuming this to be the problem we are having with humidity. What is the best way to stop the humidity for entering the cottage?
Thanks Mike
Answer:
The best way to insulate that area would be to insulate under the floor and insulate the exterior walls of that crawlspace with an insulation that will not be affected by constant moisture. The Icynene insulation system would be the ideal solution. Then make sure the ground is covered with a super 6 mil vapor barrier.
