Question:
Hello:
I have a client who was told that the insulation she purchased was R-20. The insulation in question is 2" thick rigid. I was told that 2" actually has a value of R-10, and that R-20 is 6" thick. This application is to insulate boxes carrying vaccine, and must keep the gel packs cool for up to 72 hours. Will the 2" R-10 insulation do the job?
Many thanks,
Lawrence Brierley
Answer:
Different types of insulation have different R-values per inch, and with each type of insulation depending on it's density you can have different R-values. I know there are rigid insulations out there that have the same thickness but vary in R-value. The higher the R-value the great it ability to keep the area you want insulated either warmer or cooler.
