Question:
I aminsulating the crawl space of my cottage -our future retirment home, if we live long enough. I have put 2" foam on the side wall built of 3 layers of cynder blocks sitting on a concrete footing and adding fibre glass to fill visible gaps.
Q.1 what more could be done to keep heat in?
Q.2 Is it advisable to put a layer of 1" r. foam on the fibre glass where possible?
Q. 3 Is it worthwhile to cover the dirt floor to reduce humiodity and if so how think should be the vapour barrier?
Thank you Sat.
Answer:
Ensure the crawlspace headers are insulated as well, 20% of heat loos is through there. If the crawlspace is not heat then I suggest getting the underside of that floor space insulated with a product called Icynene- a spray in place foam that air seals and insulates.
And yes to help contro humidity place a vapor barrier over the dirt floor.
