Question:
Our cottage has insulated walls as per code. The upstairs has sloped roof sides which are walls of the upstairs room as well. The sloped roof was insulated with vapour barrier, insulation, and than vapour barrier again. The first layer of vapour barrier was stappled into place to keep a 2" air flow between sloped roof and insulation. So basically the insulation is sandwiched between 2 pieces of insulation. There seems to be plenty of air flow up the sloped roof and out the upper roof vents.
Was this done right? Should I expect problems?
Answer:
Yes 2" of air flow is to code which is right, but insulation should never be placed between to layers of vapor barrier, it can possibly lead to moisture build up problems.
