Question:
I have a new house (almost one year old) that is two storey and approximately 2500 sqft.
The main floor is a mix of hardwood and ceramic and the second floor is carpeted (except for the bathroom which are ceramic) Firstly, to make the house a comfortable temperature, I have to set the forced air gas furnace to 22 but when it is not on, I find that the air seems cool; although I can't find any drafts.
Another problem is that on the second floor, there is an abundance of static electricity.
There is only my wife and I in the house, should I install a humidification system to control the static electricity or is there some insulation problem?
Answer:
If you already do not have a humidifier/dehumidifier installed on the furnace we recommend purchasing one. The relative humidity should be around 40% in the cold months to maintain comfort while also preventing condensation buildup in the home. The installation of an HRVS system may also be required in order to ensure adequate air changes per hour in the home.
