Question:
My neighbour has sold his house with the condition he fixes the inside valve reported to the buyer by an inspector. We do not understand. Our valves are located on top of the outgoing pipe ( two year old house). My daughters Convent Glenn older house has the valves on the bottom of the outgoing waterpipe. Which is correct today 2005? Is that what he is talking about?
Answer:
Unfortunately, having not seen the reported condition I am not able to make a judgement. If we are referring to shut off valves associated with exterior hosebibs (i.e. the garden hose) then shut off valves should be installed in order to properly winterize the hosebibs so as not to have them burst. Normally they are installed in a manner that is most convenient for access. Sounds to me that the inspector may have noted a bulge in the piping and has listed this as a preventative maintenance/corrective measure to ensure a leak in the future does not occur.
