Question:
hi, I've recently bought a home with a room at the front that is 23 by 11, with a concrete frame around the outside, but no basement, no slab underneath. It's simply crushed gravel with interlocking brick on top. I don't know how deep the gravel is. I'd like to take out the brick and put hardwood in, and I've heard two competing views on ways to do this. The first is lay cement down, then frame over top of that, insulate, vapour barrier, plywood, etc. The other thing i've been told is that I may be able to build a frame into the concrete outer base, which would save me having to put a cement slab down. I'd almost prefer this, since then I wouldn't have to wait for the floor to set, as the house is small and this room is the gathering room. Any suggestions? Is there a way around a cement slab, or am I asking for trouble by not doing it? And, if I need to lay a cement slab down, how long do I have to wait before we can start building a wood frame on top of it? Thanks a lot!
Answer:
Hi I think your question is more relative to a general contractor. I would suggest to contact a general contractor who is credited with your area home builders association. Than follow is recommendation. thank you
